My last visit to Uganda was in 2008, but the memory of the people I met will stay with me forever: An older woman who had lost a foot to a landmine, and now sells hand-made beads. The little kids who giggled for my camera and the very polite schoolboys who wanted to hear all about presidential candidate Obama. The disabled woman who actually danced to welcome us, although she couldn’t walk. The thirtyfive women who rode a bus for nine hours to get to our workshop. The ladies who were delighted to receive reading glasses and that we brought from the Dollar Store at home. Their stories prove it: just a little bit of help can change lives.
